Library

Centreville ES Library

Welcome to the CES library! There are over 20,000 books just waiting to be discovered, covering a wide variety of popular fiction and nonfiction authors and age ranges. The library is open from 9:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. for readers to check out and return books, as well as to work on class projects.

Students in preK-6th grade visit the library to connect with great books, learn library and research skills, and check out fiction and nonfiction titles related to their interests. Classroom curriculum and technology are integrated into library lessons that promote collaboration, inquiry, and 21st century skills.

Checking Out Books

Kindergarten students begin the year by checking out 1 book at a time, but this amount will increase as they learn to become responsible book borrowers during their Kindergarten school year. Grades 1-6 have unlimited checkout, with the following guidelines: they must be able to carry the books without dropping them, fit the books in their backpacks, and show responsibility by having less than 2 overdue books.

Books are checked out for two weeks. If students are not finished with a book, they may bring it in to renew it, or check it out again, as long as the book is not on hold for someone else.

Students can get on a waiting list for books that are currently checked out to someone else using a paper form at the circulation desk.

Students are responsible for paying for damaged and/or lost books.

Parent Volunteers

Parent volunteers are always welcome in the library! We circulate thousands of books each month, so help with shelving is especially appreciated. For more information contact librarian Aubrey Thorne at 703-502-3516, or at @email.
