STEAM
Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math
STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) instruction is a forefront for our students at CES. Our students participate in a variety of engineering design challenges, which help them grow their 21st Century Skills. Students design cities, create rockets, use our 3D printers, 3D pens, create Rube Goldberg designs, all while working in a group environment. Each lesson is based on the VA SOL’s (math, science) for the grade level.
This year, we were lucky enough to be chosen, as 1 of 400 schools worldwide, to participate in the GE Additive Education Program, where we were awarded 2 – 3D printers and access to software for our students. Keeping our students updated on technology is a priority. CES currently has a total of 3- 3D printers for students to use thanks to GE.
Being a Green School, CES has taken a different stance on their projects, using upcycled materials, donated by our community, to us as building tools. We also use environmental topics (ex. solving an oil spill), creating green TED Talks, with different grade levels to help them have a global perspective on the world around us.
